Stallsworth

Dr. C.L. Stallworth is native of Alabama, born to courageous parents who instilled in him a deep-sense of community service and human responsibility. As a child, he often accompanied his father to meetings concerning civil rights, voter’s registration, and Veterans services. Dr. Stallworth’s father retired from the United States Army and spent his retirement years making sure every Veteran he came in contact with received all available services provided by our country and Dr. Stallworth as a child was there learning and appreciating those conversations, hoping for the day when he too could make a difference. At the same time, Dr. Stallworth’s mother often received ill, elderly relatives and friends into their home providing care and family love based on her committed faith. These traits provided by Dr.Stallworth’s parents shaped a belief system in the young Stallworth that helping humanity and assuming responsibility are twins that lift humanity, communities and the world.

Dr. Stallworth entered the preaching ministry at the early age of 16, as a junior in high school. He often preached in various churches as a young minister learning, meeting, and further developing his love to see people reach their full potential.

Dr. Stallworth received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Bible and Pastoral Ministry from Selma University, Selma, Alabama. While a student at Selma University, he received The Leadership Ability Award, Best Senior Student Award, and Best Senior Student Pastor Award. Dr. Stallworth earned his Master of Divinity Degree from Vanderbilt University, School of Divinity, Nashville, Tennessee. While studying at Vanderbilt University, Dr. Stallworth received the Florence Conwell Preaching Prize. Dr. Stallworth received his Doctor of Ministry Degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. During Dr. Stallworth’s studies at Vanderbilt University and United Theological Seminary, he was mentored by the late Dr. Samuel Dewitt Proctor.

In addition to the church, Dr. Stallworth has served in academia, serving as professor at Des Moines Area Community College, Des Moines, Iowa; Selma University, Selma, Alabama; and presently at Hartford Seminary, Hartford, Connecticut. Dr. Stallworth has provided leadership in the denominational arena, serving as President of the Iowa State Congress of Christian Education; President of Iowa State Convention; Vice-President and President of the Connecticut State Congress of Christian Education; and presently as Moderator of the Issachar Association.
Presently, Dr. Stallworth serves as Pastor of the East End Baptist Tabernacle Church, Bridgeport, Connecticut. The East End Baptist Tabernacle Church continues to grow, reaching across barriers that often divide instead of unite. Under Dr. Stallworth’s leadership, the church continues to focus on making the community a better place, so that the impact felt by the larger community will be intentional and long-lived.

Dr. Stallworth has always bridged the gap between belief system and service, serving presently as Vice President of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Greater Bridgeport and Vicinity; Member of the East End Neighborhood Revitalization Association and a Commissioner on the Bridgeport Board of Police Commissioners.

In February 2011, Dr. Stallworth took the zeal and compassion that have pervaded his life and offered his service as a candidate for State Representative, 126th District. With community support, Dr. Stallworth won and is now serving his second term as a legislator. As an elected State Legislator, Dr. Stallworth takes pride in constituent service and is committed to making his district a better place to live, work and raise a family. He has hit the ground working for the district, city, and state, co-sponsoring legislation for better health care, Veterans issues, school bullying, education, and meeting children’s special needs. Dr. Stallworth is grateful for the opportunity to serve.
