Cynthia (Cindy) Sumpter-Wilson is a native of Georgetown, S.C. Cindy received her early education in South Carolina. She graduated from Choppee High School in Georgetown South Carolina, where she was the youngest in her graduation class, and number 9 in a class of 69. At an early age, she became a disciple at the Trinity AME Church where she served as a Youth Sunday School Teacher, usher, and sang in the Youth Choir. She had her first experience as a convention delegate at Trinity. After attending her first Sunday School Convention, the convention has been in her blood.
Cindy relocated to Connecticut in 1963 and became a disciple at East End Baptist Tabernacle under the Leadership of Rev Dr. James D. Peters. She have been active in several ministries: Church Chorus, Mass Choir, Women's Day Chairperson, Church School Superintendent and Pastor's Search Committee. In June of 2014, she was ordained to the Diaconate Ministry under the Leadership of Rev. Dr. C.L. Stallworth. Cindy currently serves as Director of Christian Education and Vacation Bible School/Summer Enrichment Program, which is held annually the third week of July.
In May of 1965, the late Sister Carrie Glover introduced Cindy to the Connecticut State Missionary Baptist Convention. I was not asked but told that she would pick me up each fifth Sunday for the League Meeting, without thinking I said yes. I have been attending League and Convention since that time. It was in 1977 that Mrs. Lillian Kegler introduced me to the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education and I am happy to say that I have only missed one Congress since. I also attend the National Baptist Convention each year
Cindy attended Sacred Heart University and Fairfield University and completed the Unit Managers Program at Bridgeport Hospital. She have held several positions at Bridgeport Hospital, Business Clerical, Unit Manager, Patient Care Coordinator, Inventory Manager and currently Cardiac Systems Coordinator in the Heart Institute.
She is the proud mother of two sons, Darryl a Bridgeport Police Officer and Doug a Computer Engineer at IBM in Raleigh North Carolina. Cindy is also the proud Grandmother of two grandsons and two granddaughters. Briana is an honor student at Arts and Humanitarian Magnet School in New Haven Connecticut, and was inducted into the National Honor Society in 2013, DeAndra is a senior at the University of North Carolina, Darryl Jr. graduated from Payne College in Augusta, Georgia, and Doug Jr. is an eighth grade student in North Carolina.
